| Ronna Neuenschwander began exhibiting in 1977 shortly after graduating from the University of Kansas in 1976. Her love of Africa and particularly the people of Mali has greatly influenced her articulate and informed mixed media sculptures. Using clay as a primary media, Neuenschwander 's sculptures evoke mythical creatures with deep cultural beginnings. The highly detailed anthropomorphic pieces are both playful and iconic and make viewers want to hold the work in the belief that doing so will transfer to them either power or knowledge or both. |
